York's fabulous food festival returns again for the 19th year in 2015.
The details below are from 2014:
20th – 29th June – ‘ Yorkshire Produce and French Flavour’
Cookery demonstrations and markets... New June dates for the Festival will add to the celebratory atmosphere in the city, on the run up to the Grand Depart of the Tour de France (6th July).
‘Yorkshire Produce - French Flavour’ will be the theme, tempting visitors to experience a fusion of Yorkshire and French cuisine and celebrating York’s links with France; York’s twin city Dijon famously known for its mustard is now an official city of Gastronomy in France. The Gastronomic Meal of the French was listed as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2010, so what better way to tickle your tastebuds than tasting some of France and Yorkshire’s finest foods?
The Festival’s market will be its usual space in Parliament Street and St Sampson’s Square and offer a bar and early evening music programme every day. Market stalls will open from 9am with some staying open late alongside the Real Ale Bar and Champagne tent, offering live music until 9pm.
Note: these new June dates are a one-off arrangement, celebrating the arrival of the Tour de France and also accommodating a major redevelopment of York’s Newgate Market during the Summer and Autumn.
19th – 28th September – ‘Quaff and Scoff’
‘Quaff and Scoff through York’, our Autumn festival theme for 2014 will offer day and evening events: wine tastings; a taste trail offering samples from delis and restaurants through the city; talks and food tastings; cookery demonstrations and hands on workshops for both adults and children; intimate dinners offered by locals in their homes, alongside supper in some of the city’s iconic historic buildings such as the medieval Guildhall; special restaurant offers and menus; foraging for beginners; as well as visits to Yorkshire food and drink producers, in and around the city. This very extensive programme will be supplemented by a lively fringe programme including the annual York CAMRA Beer and Cider Festival.
