York International Women's Week

Marking the 15th year that York has held it's own week-long festival to celebrate International Women's Day (IWD) on 8 March. This year there are 78 events in the programme. Around the world, IWD is a celebration of the economic, social, cultural and poltcal contribution of women, and highlights the issues that concern them, The 8th March is a global day connecting all women around the world and inspiring them to come together to share their vision for a better future and ways of moving forwards on a personal and community level. International Women's Day has been observed since the early 1900s.
