Every year, 27 January marks Holocaust Memorial Day. In 2015 this day commemorates the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau, the 20th anniversary of the Bosnian Genocide and the 21st anniversary of the Rwandan Genocide.
On and around this date people from all over the world come together to remember the destruction and devastation caused by the Holocaust, genocides and persecutions on a worldwide scale.
York’s Holocaust Memorial Day programme follows the theme ‘KEEP THE MEMORY ALIVE’, engaging with partners both inside and outside of the city to create a programme of varied events that commemorate the past, explore the present and consider the implications both have for our own futures.
Starts on Friday, January 16, 2015
